Has anyone here actually managed to rewire their brain to enjoy deep work?
#1
I've been trying to get into deep work lately — like truly focused, distraction-free work blocks — but my brain just refuses to cooperate. I sit down to start something meaningful and within minutes I’m checking tabs or walking to the kitchen for no reason. It’s like my brain is addicted to novelty. Has anyone here actually managed to rewire their brain to enjoy deep work? I’m not looking for hacks — I mean real, long-term change.

I relate to this so much. For me, the shift only started happening when I stopped expecting deep work to feel "good" right away. At first, it was like dragging my brain through wet cement — nothing flowed, and I kept craving cheap dopamine hits like scrolling or messaging. But I started setting a simple rule: 30 minutes with no interruptions, no matter how miserable. Over time, my brain kind of stopped fighting it. What also helped was reading through this Reddit post the liven: Trying to improve focus and productivity — some of the comments there hit home, especially about boredom tolerance. Also, I now track how I feel after a deep work session, not just what I got done. Eventually, that post-work calm became the reward. Now, I genuinely crave that state when my mind locks in. It took about 3–4 weeks of consistent effort before anything shifted. So yeah, rewiring is possible — just slow.

Same here, I think it really does take time and some patience. For me, the key was building routines around focus instead of relying on willpower. I still mess up, but it’s less frequent now.
