Fan Artist Reimagines Teddiursa, Ursaring, and Ursaluna as First-Generation Pokemon S

A talented Pokemon fan artist has reimagined the beloved bear-like creatures Teddiursa, Ursaring, and Ursaluna as sprites in the classic style of the first-generation games. The artist shared their retro-inspired creations on social media, receiving praise for their attention to detail and faithful adaptation of these modern Pokémon into the pixelated aesthetic of the original Pokemon titles.

Teddiursa, known as the Little Bear Pokemon, made its debut in Pokemon Gold and Silver as an exclusive critter for the former game. This Normal-type Pokemon, hailing from the Johto region, is easily recognized by its brown fur, crescent moon marking on its forehead, and its habit of licking honey from its paw. Teddiursa evolves into Ursaring at level 30, transforming into a larger, bipedal bear with a distinctive ring pattern on its chest. In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Ursaring gained an additional evolution, Ursaluna, triggered by using a Peat Rock during a full moon. Ursaluna later received a Bloodmoon variant in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's The Teal Mask DLC.

Although the Teddiursa evolution line may not be the most iconic from the Johto region, one artist gave these bear Pokémon a nostalgic makeover. A Reddit user known as MetalFlygon08 posted their sprite artwork of Teddiursa, Ursaring, and Ursaluna on the r/pokemon subreddit, drawing inspiration from the original Pokemon Red and Blue games. The artist created gray and brown sprites for each Pokémon, including back sprites that appear during battles. Teddiursa is depicted licking its left paw, while Ursaring appears with a surprised expression.

Ursaluna, the final evolution in the line, is shown in an aggressive stance, with its left paw raised and teeth bared, ready to strike. The back sprite of Ursaluna portrays it standing on two legs, with its eyes seemingly focused on its trainer, awaiting a command before launching its attack. MetalFlygon08 mentioned that the Teddiursa and Ursaring sprites are part of a larger project, where they’ve recreated all the Johto Pokémon in the style of the first generation. However, the powerful Bloodmoon Ursaluna variant was not included in this particular post.
